i've run up a very large debt through gambling on the financial markets. I am now in a dmp to try and pay off all the debts but not all of the creditors have frozen the interest so each month i owe more than the last. I'm considering bankruptcy or iva but i am the main earner in the household and am likely to get divorced as my wife has just found out about the gambling. This complicates things a lot as we have a son and i will have to pay the rent on my wife and sons accommodation as well as mine. Would i be allowed to pay both rents if i was bankrupt and divorced? We live in london so rent is a large part of our outgoings.
hi johnny73 firstly welcome to the forum i can not answer your question for sure but am quite sure the or would only look at your own rent being allowed in your i&e but of course that is not absolute,if you and your wife were to sepperate and she then went into rental property with little income other than benefits she would be able to claim houing benefit to pay all or part of her rent,i hope this helps a bit
