Had a letter today from credit card co: M**A and even though i have kept communicating with them for months, and sending token payments, told them i am ill and now have cab debt counsellor dealing with things, they have kept phoning and writing. My other 3 creditors have been more respectful in their own way. I never wanted this to happen like many others here im sure -

The letter was headed WARNING and underneath the very first sentence said -
You are hereby notified that we may authorise collection agents to visit your home in order to interview you regarding repayments to your credit card account.

I felt like i was going to have a heart attack and with my illness getting worse lately i felt like i was going to die.

Well after a good cry, i re-read the letter and realised this would not be an instant thing and i did phone the no: and was treated abruptly, asked why i got into this position and how was i going to pay the debt etc. When i said i had an illness and done the forms for bankruptcy, and the cab counsellor was going to help me with them, i could almost hear the eyes rolling and he practically hung up on me - his title was 'head of customer assistance' and i got no assistance at all unless it was on the way to a coffin.

I have been a good customer of theirs for many years and always paid the balances - i was working then and doing well
I feel like crap so treating me like that was cruel.

Anyhow i was looking at this site after for some sense of balance and found the info posted about - section 40 of the Admin of justice act. and wanted to do something about it as i felt angry afterwards, but im too weak and dont want to rock the (leaking) boat.

I also phoned the counsellor who said i didnt have to let anyone in the house, but i rent a room in a shared house (all i can afford at the mo') and cant guarantee others would let 'them' in. Also I dont want the landlord to know my predicament - his name is on the br form now and i feel anxious that he will be contacted and i might lose my room - i have no family and too proud to involve friends -

To get to my question, if 'they' were let in could they take away my old lap top, its only reconditioned and the battery is crap, but its all i have for support at present. Also would the address be 'tainted' by all this and the landlord find out?
Anyhow, any humor in this letter is purely intentional to prevent the onset of madness again and thanks for reading.

It's unlikely that anyone will come to your house. Loads of people on here have had letters like that and nothing has happened.

If a debt collector does come to your house, they cannot take anything. The only people that can take your belongings are bailiffs with a court warrant. You are a long way from that at the moment.

When do you think you will go BR?

Tomorrow is a mystery, yesterday is history, today is the present, a gift to make the most of.

Hi thanks for reasurrance - i want to get the forms in asap but debt counsellor has a pile of work and said he will do his best and then write to me, so im guessing another week.
I also phoned my pension people and they could suspend my payment until i got another acc. sorted out.
Will call inc. ben and dla offices to try and do the same once the forms are in -until i get sorted.
I saved the fee for br by eating less, stay in like a hermit, and borrowing a little from friends (they dont know)- have lost wieght so now about 55kgs and hair somehwat grey but dont care as i just want to get it over - maybe i am over-reacting and i am so so grateful to have found this site.
Although i have felt ill and quite depressed (dead inside feeling)its heartening to read that coming out the other side, people feel better
At least i can pop extra meds down my neck to try and cope so maybe better off than some - im aware that im selfish at times in my panicking as some folk have dependants and/or are more disabled than me, at least i can type etc
So glad someone replied and relieved to know its not an instant thing with people in suits and shaved heads knocking at the door - i would freak out i think so thanks for reasurrance-
also would my landlord find out? would he be contacted?

Usless: Firstly BE VERY VERY assured that no-one is coming to your home to take your posessions. Even the few people who are authorised to do this for Tax Fines etc, are only interested in expensive stuff they can sell. In this economic climate everyone is selling, no-one buying, so DO NOT WORRY!. As for the bankers threats etc, (I call them money pushers as they feed our habits), they all make the most outrageous threats but unless you have the Aston Martin parked in the drive there is not much they can do especially to a tennant. Once you got BR they simply cannot touch you in any way!
Go back over my posts and see my story. I quickly realised that people in debt are no longer regarded as scum, more like victims and we have been feeding the fat cats of the world for too long.

Go BR and I guarantee you will start to sleep again at night and not dread the phone or post. Aks other like me on this forum who have done it. OK you wont get credit for 6 years + SO WHAT! it is credit that has got the world into the financial crisis it is now in. I can think of a better word than bankers to describe most financial institutions but this is a family site! Good luck

hi useless
please do not panic, the whole reason the letter from your card company is written the way i was is to frighten you so that you will pay them they would have to go to court before they could get a warrent to enter your premise's even if others let them into the house where you live they can not enter your room without your permission, particually if you have a sepereate lock on your door,as far as your landlord is concerned,if you have been on time with your rent and have no arrears i would prob, discuss the situation with him/her after all they are only concerned wheather they get there rent, so if you have been paying on tome etc,why wold they want to kick you out and poss not get a tenant who pays on time or no tenant at all

Hi Useless

I would not worry too much about these letters, they are sent for reasons that no one really knows other than they have to try and get their money so will put the scare tactics on you.

You have a long way to go before they can instigate anything like baliffs etc so i would not worry, just put them in a file to give to the OR when you do go BR and just try and get yourself back on track.

Please try not to worry though.:-)

Take Care

Hi useless,

I'm glad you're feeling better. Put your feet up and try to put it to the back of your mind for now.
