My accounts received a letter today stating I have today issued tax code NT (to be issued on a Week 1 basis) for 2008-09 for the above named employee.

Can you please let me have the following details from her?

Tax deducted from 15 August 2008 (or nearest earlier pay date), up to the date you first use the above tax code.

Just spoken to accounts and they have sent my wages (I get paid via cheque) to my bank. They send it early to allow time for cheque to get there and clear.

My first IPA payment is due 1st November (although haven't received any direct debit forms etc.). My wages have already been sent so will my first NT payment go out end of November wages?

Also in the information they have requested, August wages tax was £271, September wages tax was £149 (because I had £60 refund) and October wages was £261 (because of £10 refund). How will they work out what I pay?

Maizie

Hi

As you have already effectively paid tax on this months wages, they will get this back from the IR directly. They should have given you an amount to pay as you would have signed the IPA, but my guess is that they will base it around the £250/£260 mark.

You employer justs needs to let them know how much tax you have had deducted from your wages in the period from 15 August 2008 up to and including this months wages.

I had an amount for my IPA but there wasn't an amount for my tax I don't think! Maybe there was, I did tell the OR at the interview my tax code was changing to 603L and that my tax had gone down from £271 to £261. He said he would accept that figure but increase my wages to an extra £10 a month.

Them asking for tax from August... is this just for their records and they won't work out the average?

Also what would happen if my tax is £261 and they ask for £250? Do I call them and tell them its £261 or can I just accept the £250 figure?

The tax from August is just so they know how much they should get back from the IR.

If they ask for £250 I would accept it. Any difference is a bonus to you.

Well, I can't see that it would be right for you to personally profit from not paying tax due to your bankruptcy so surely you would have to send the whole amount?

I get paid 4-weekly, and had a £94 NT payment agreed with the OR. 3 wage packets on, and I've still not been switched to NT.

Been switched from a "5" tax code to a "6", and got my £60 refund.

However, the solicitors (who don't seem to get much right!) have just asked for the last three wage slips back to check i'm not paying too much (£94 - when it starts).

Will have to wait until 31st Oct wage packet, but will my tax payment be going down with the new "6" code I'm on and do I need to query it?

Hi Zamfir

It can take a little while for the NT code to be set up. I think on a weekly one it may take up to say about 8 weeks maybe and then thats not a guarantee.

I would not worry about it, you will receive a letter from the IR HMRC to say that they have been advised of your BR and your nil tax code and then you will know that things are starting to progress.

Best of luck

Oh and RHB

Yes i can see your point about profiting about the extra money, but the same goes when the take too much when they should not have, they then profit from those people then.

If the OR has agreed that amount then that is what will be collected, at the same time though the collecting agents keep an eye on the amounts and can ask for a change of circumstances form to be given if they feel that its warranted and the money has gone up or down considerably.
