Hi
Yesterday Vodafone decided they were going to close my contract and switch me to Pay as you go.I would be interested to know if anyone else has had any experiences along the same line because I am pretty sure I have read other people being allowed to keep them.
Just wanted to check as well,I am just about to send off my expenses questionnaire and I should tell them and any debt to Vodafone for the remaining months of the contract can be included in the BR?
Many thanks

Hi Nicola
This is purely down to the contract company and also if it is in there clause somewhere.
I had o2 as my supplier, when i mentioned to them that i was going BR they said as soon as they knew they would close my account and i would be billed for the final contract term money. They said they did not want the phone back and that the bill would go to the OR. The only mobile i could then have with them was like you a pay as you go, they did say i could keep my number if i wanted to. I wrote this on my SoA, but if you did not include Vodaphone just inform the OR of what is happening and they can include it now. Send all bills from Vodaphone to your OR for them to deal with. I have read some have been able to keep contracts but it is down to the company at the time. Hope this helps you a bit.
Take Care
Jo x

I was allowed to keep my contract with Vodafone. I didn't mention the contract in my BR forms, I told the OR that I had one and they weren't interested so I presume they never told Vodafone.
I spoke to Vodafone about it and they were fine - they even asked if I needed my tariff reduced to make the payments easier.
It seems strange that there is no consistency.

Well i contacted Orange yesterday to inform them and they had blocked the phone before we even ended the call. They told me i would not be able to keep same number too (what a pain trying to remember everyone that had my old number!!). Anyway this was not on my soa, but as the or asked for details of it i had to give it over the phone, she then informed me that she would be contacting them, so i just got there first.
xx

I don't think my OR even asked who the contract was with! I must admit I didn't put my mobile on the SOA, I listed it under telephone - I don't pay for the landline. I did tell the OR when I spoke to them though.

I didn't list it either as I don't have a landline. And I must admit I never mentioned it to the OR at interview stage, although its obvious because he was interviewing me on my mobile!!!! ;o)

I have a contract with Orange and I have always paid on time. I also use this number for my business. I always thought that you could change to pay as you go and keep the same number, if you had problems in keeping the contract. I use this number for my business and it is advertised everywhere, website, yellow pages, business cards. If I lost this number then I would be in big trouble getting business. Hope this does not happen.

I think I was lucky with my examiner. I wouldn't call her lovely, but she was polite, efficient and very generous with my allowances!
Did you have a bad time with your interview?

Not sure why one would need to advise the mobile phone company about the bankruptcy provided that :-
1. you don't incur £500 or more of credit ( that would be in any one month as you are billed monthly)
or
2. There is a current outstanding debt ( more than the usual monthly bill) which needs to be included in Br.
My view is that in these times a mobile phone is simply a phone and as such is almost a utility to many people and a lifeline to others.
Perhaps the moral of the story is - if you are not asked a question don't offer an answer

That's why I didn't declare it - I don't have a landline, so it's my phone.
I only told Vodafone as I had to pay them by Dave's credit card one month while my bank account was getting sorted out. They asked my why I was paying like that and I just blurted it out!

I often think that people that have gone through the ordeal of debt and then bankruptcy feel that they need to be punished in some way.
Bankruptcy is not a crime and people in Br shouldn't be made to feel like criminals.
Stick to the rules and one will be OK. So unless it says you must phone up everyone and tell them - don't . It doesn't benefit anyone and in some cases where a supplier takes an unpleasant stance actually INCREASES the debt which isn't very bright on their side.

Forgot to mention, the ladt from the or's office also told me that any contracts mean nothing once you declare Br, and it doesnt matter if payments are kept up to date or not.
Im very confused about this whole situation and dont feel any less stressed - in fact i feel more down than i have in a long time
