I owe about 3000GBP to Banks in the form of a loan and a credit card and have an overdraft of 1600GBP with another bank which is also being charged interest (although benefits money means that this bank is not actually asking for money right away) also i have a student loan of 12000GBP (which doesnt not need to be paid right away), i have no one way to keep up with payments and am being charged extortionate fees for late payments every month. I do not work and am on incapacity benefit making me uneligible for work, i only recievve 240GBP a month, I have tried many repayment plans and now the bank have said they are passing the debt on. I own no property or any possesions as i live with my parents, I'm 25 years of age and am probablly likely to go to prison for a year in January 2009 for ABH, i would like to declare bankruptcy before i go to prison and be done with this debt as its already spiraled out of control. Is there any advice you can offer me? What is the best plan of action? I feel totally lost and suicidal at the moment

hi aj, you are right to be asking about a plan of action, its a positive step in the right direction. Dont feel down, even though it feels like a tidal wave approaching and it feels like theres no way out. This site has been like a life raft to me when i was felt suicidal about debt,so please phone the helpline and get some advice.

im not panicking anymore because they cant take what i havent got - what we have is life itself which is beyond price, and a future free from debt,
Just edited the rest of this reply as i ranted on a bit about myself but whats important now is you get the right advice so you can feel in some sort of control again.
If things get really bad mentally for you then call saneline on 0845 767 8000 or visit their website www.saneline.org.uk -
hope this helps,

Having nothing is a form of freedom
