You might also want to consider one of the "pay as you go debit cards" as a temporary measure.

Tuxedo now do standing orders and you can have your salary paid into the account, plus you get a paying in book so you can deposit funds at barclays.

COOP usually say no because they can't find you on the electoral register. Worth checking that you are there.

No problem.

get a temp solution, get yourself registered then re apply when you are sure you are on it.

depending upon which creditors you have there may be other banks too.

possible Barclays?

Hi, although there is a fee, i can recommend Think banking, its thro RBS and is a managed account, so they will make sure all your bills are kept in a payment account and will move any spending money to a maestro payment card where u can use in shops and cashpoints. they accept d/d and s/o and u get a named person to contact with any questions. they are hoping later this year to offer internet access to view transactions/statements, but at present they have texted me on paydays to inform of deposits and balances, and u can request balances via text message and there's also an automated telephone line to call for balances.
Fees are £30 for opening account and £12.50 per month with an additional £5 per month for joint card on account.
good luck

Hi i can also recommend think banking, i lost my card the other day and they arranged for me to access cash direct from rbs, i can now receive 8 latest transactions via text, up to the minute balance and all my dds are sorted it may be short term but a good alternative and paying 12.50 per month for the priveledge is something you can take with you when you are discharged.

good luck

Hey Kazy

That is so weird, maybe you could write to them and ask why they turned you down.

Best of luck with finding a new account.

LOL

Hi Kazy

I got an account with the alliance and leicester it's only a basic cash card and can do DD but not S/O. You have to do it throught ht epost though and it took a few weeks to come through. Abbey is another one that you could try.
If no Think banking is an option but i disagree with what they charge but if it gets you started mght be worth a go.
Good luck

Hello Kazy1,

I got accepted for a Co-op account when i was in the actual branch and then a week later i got a letter saying i had been declined, it is usually because you are not on the electoral role.....how long have you been on there - as it takes a while for the report to be updated. I have been on mine since august and my credit report still doesnt recognise that!

Anyway, I wrote to Co-op and demanded a reason why i was declined, they will write back to you, or give you a number to call - it is worth checking it out - they will respond to you. It might be something really simple...

Thanks
