I separated from my husband two years ago and went onto income support and housing benefit.I receive no maintenance and have struggled to support my child on the small amount I receive monthly.I would like to declare myself bankrupt but have heard that I might have to wait a few months for a basic bank account once I have declared my bankrupt. This will be a problem for me as all my benefits are payed directly into my bank account and worried about paying rent etc.My family all live abroad so I am a bit concerned about being turfed out!Thank you

Hi pshirley and Welcome

Firstly sorry to hear about your past, but we can help you with your future.

You say you want to go bankrupt, if you dont mind me asking how much is it you owe, as there may be other things open to you rather than just declaring bankruptcy.

If you decide BR is the right way to go you can apply before hand for a Coop cashminder account and have all your benefits paid into there and also get your rent etc paid out of that account before you went BR.

Do you live in a mortgaged home or is it rented.

Thanks again

Jo

Hi

just a quick note re bank accounts before going Br.

If you live in the Brighton area apply a few days before Br as they seem to insist that all accounts are closed down.
