Hello,

Can anyone advise the best time and way to change bank accounts prior to petitioning for bankruptcy please. My bank account is with one of my main creditors, so I am looking to open a new bank account with a bank that has no connection with Natwest. However, it is too late to do it this month, so I will have to wait until January now. As I have a loan with Natwest which comes out on 2nd of each month, if I withdraw all money from my account before 1st January, will they start harassing me for payment straight away and if so, do I just grin and bear it or do I tell them I am going to go bankrupt? My payments are made by direct debit. I just don't know how to go about this as I need to save money which would've been paid to the creditors to pay for my bankruptcy fees.

Any advice would be welcomed.

Thanks

Keith

Hi Keith

Stop all DD's and then move all your money to another account. You can try Coop casahminder or Think Banking but these charge a fee per month and i would try and do it sooner than later so you can get wages paid in etc.

I would also get your court date if thats what you want to do straight after payday then you can remove the funds for general living for the month.

Best of luck

They will hassle you, but its bearable I promise. The calls go on all day but you dont have to talk to them if you dont want to (I didn't). Then the letters will start, but dont be worried by them, you have time at this stage.
I personally would not mention your plan to go BR. This could speed them up in applying for attachment of earnings/charging orders/CCJs etc. If you do speak to anyone, say you are considering your options. They will do everything they can to talk you out of BR. Stay firm and do what is best for you.
