We were due to move on the 30th Jan into our rental house which we jumped thru hoops for, paid a 2k deposit on top of everything else. We rang to cancel phone, tv etc as they need 1 months notice, agents rang today to say that the landlord is now selling to a cash buyer. It has really made us angry as we had signed contracts paid all monies due and we even saw the landlord just before xmas he said we could have keys a week earlier to start moving in.

The agents were really miffed about it too. So much for this year being better than the last, now we have to go back to the drawing board. Made last payment to mortgage in Sept just hoping we can hold out a little longer, had no threats yet, you watch tommorrow one will drop through the door.

Sorry to go on.

Hope everyone had a good xmas and New Year.

Hi

really sorry to hear that news, I know you were both really looking forward to the move.

The good thing is that if you have not had any court action yet from the lender then you have a lot more time. If they have not started posession proceedings yet then you have at least 2 months.

Lets you get a little more deposit ready if necessary.

You might also ask the agent to get some compensation from the landlord as he has broken a contract and in theory is required to give you 2 months notice. Perhaps you can settle for £500!

Thanks Jo and Paul,

Paul, We signed our contracts before xmas and sent them back but were due to be moving in 30th Jan, is this something we can recoup from the landlord at this stage? The agents are BACS our deposit back told them to stick a cheque where the sun doesnt shine lol.

Probably worth reading the contract to check, however I can guarantee that if you pulled out at this time then you would be struggling to get your deposit back.

I suspect that the landlord is in breach of contract and legally has a financial obligation.

Good luck

Hi GT

Just read your post. What a bummer!

Is there nothing else that the letting agents can do as 2k is a lot of money to lose even now.

I do hope that you get something sorted out and sooner rather than later.

Best of luck

Jo

Hi GT

You fight them for it, as thats not fair and you now have to find somewhere else.

Can they offer you anywhere else to live or was that the only one they had?

I do hope you get this sorted out, i do feel for you.

You know where i am if you want to talk/email anytime.

Best of luck

Think we have found another house, its not as modern, but landlords are going to Spain to live dont intend coming back, we want to ungrade most of the light fitting a bit dated - so we asked for rental reduction which they agreed, also we can paint if we want, we can take the cat and keep the trampoline on the lawn. It is artexed everywhere but we can live with that. We have also laid all our cards on the table and all they want is a guarator and landlords have been advised of our situation, so its not the agent saying one thing and then later they tell the landlord.

Wont be able to move til the end of Feb now, but hey ho and we can walk to school every morning and night as it is within 2-3 mins walk of school, so at least we will be saving fuel and road rage lol.

Fingers crossed - not counting my chickens until we have actually moved now.
