You are right in thinking that the official receiver will class the redundancy money as a windfall and therefore make a claim against it.
Perhaps a conversation with the OR is in order and they may allow you to retain some of the funds until either benefits or another job comes into play.
What you must not do is to keep the money and not tell the OR, that would give you some serious problems.
