After a extremely messy marriage breakup last year I am left with debts of approx £30,000 all in my name for debts accrued by my materialistic soon to be ex.Within a week of our breakup he destroyed all my belongings and i have struggled to re start my life ever since.I cannot manage to pay any of my debtors and have just booked my court date for bankruptcy 10th April. can anyone tell me if there is anything i can do ,or say, to creditors, debt collectors (all unsecured) in the meantime to get them off my back? If I tell them i have filed for bankruptcy will it make them even more frantic to attempt possession orders etc?.. BTW I have nothing of value in the slightest except my car which is worth about £500 and i need it for work. I am getting constant calls ,letters and visits and have stopped answering the door :(..
many thanks... roll on 10th April!! |

Hi Whatever,
I would write to them all informing them that you have a court date booked for Bankruptcy and what that date is, I would inform them you have no assetts of any value and this is you reason for the Bankruptcy.
This may go some way to stop the phone calls and letters, but they will not cease completly until after your Bankruptcy im affraid,
Brett

Hello whatever and welcome to the forum
Unless you had already received a county court summons then it is almost impossible ( except council tax) that a creditor would send a bailiff. Therefore your posessions are same.
If a creditor calls and you answer simply say that you have booked a court appointment for April 10th and that you will call them with a Br number when you are out of court.
Good luck

Hi Whatever,
The end is in sight so hopefully you have a fresh start ahead.
What dosn't kill us only makes us stronger as they say, and you can now put this down to experience.
Having been where you are, I know exactly how you feel though.
Good Luck.
