I've heard about a corgi plumber who may have goine bust and I owe him £400 inc. VAT. How can I find out if he has gone bust (is this the same as bankrupt). He's asked me to make the cheque out to his name only as he's no longer a Ltd company. I'm not sure what to do. If you can advise I would be most grateful.

You could look at the Companies House website for information regarding his company this will detail if it is in administration etc. Alternatively, you could look at the Insolvency Register for his name to see if he is personally bankrupt. I am not sure how quickly the information is updated so if it has only just happened then it may not be showing yet.
