This account provides direct debits, standing orders, internet banking PLUS a Visa Electron card.

Currently it is a very good soution to ones banking needs while in Br

Another good account which only requires ID to open is the Barclays cashcard account - there is no internet banking but a wider branch network than Co-op. However if branch represenation isn't an issue then as Paul suggests Co-op Cashminder is an excellent account

Hi TAA,

Welcome to the forum, I agree with Alan and Paul the Co-op cash minder account is the best dor undischarged Bankrupts and will provide the facilities you need.

All the best

Hi,

Below is a post made by debtdummy last year there is a lis of Banks who are Bankrupt friendly.

The list was compiled early last year so there may be some changes.

Who can Provide a Bankruptcy Bank Account?

Co-operative Cashminder account
Barclays Cash Card Account
Nationwide Flex Cash Card
* Bank of Scotland Easycash Account*
* Halifax Easycash Account*
* Lloyds TSB Bank Account*
* NatWest Step Account*
* Royal Bank of Scotland Key Account*
Gregory Pennington

Those banks with an * next to them may decline your application if you are an undischarged bankrupt or have a record of fraud.

Under the Banking Code 2005 if the lender has such an account available you should be offered a basic bank account "if you specifically ask and meet the qualifying conditions for one". It is possible that you may not be offered one and if this is the case you may be able to complain under the Banking Code.

All the best

Also for more flexability you might want to consider a pre payment mastercard.

Julian's information is out of date. There are very few banks who will allow a bank account to an undischarged bankrupt these days - but if you look at some of Skippy's posts on iva.co.uk I think that the Co-op still do as suggested by Paul.

Julian's list is not entirely out of date as the Nationwide still do an account and they are quite easy to open.

There have been several reports on the iva.co.uk site which suggest that Nationwide no longer offer accounts to bankrupts, so it would be good to learn of someone with current first-hand experience of this. Have you recently opened an account with Nationwide - Pix1 - and if so how long ago?

After a topic a few weeks ago Paul mentioned the Cashminder account from the Co-Op and i have suggested this to a few clients recently and the feed back has been very positive.

I hope this helps

Melanie,

I already had an account with the Nationwide- a Cashbuilder card. I cut up the card when I went bankrupt but after speaking to the examiner at OR he advised that i could still use the account if the bank were informed of BR and did not object. Of course, the OR would be monitoring what went in and out of the account whilst undischarged.

I called the Nationwide after my BR order and advised them I was undischarged. They said it was ok to have there Cashbuilder card and account whilst undischarged. This is not a debit card but you can draw cash and use it to pay in wages and direct debits/standing orders.

I am assuming that if you can keep the facility you already had before going BR adnw hilst undischarged you could aslo open one with them after BR order.

That is good news, as I am sure that they will not open accounts for new applicants.

I have a Nationwide Flexaccount that I opened last year, and I can confirm that they no longer open them for undischarged bankrupts as I phoned them to ask.

However, the Cashbuilder account is a savings account rather than a current account so they may still allow undischarged bankrupts to open one.

Tomorrow is a mystery, yesterday is history, today is the present, a gift to make the most of.

I was going to say that Nationwide do not open accounts for people who are bankrupt now even if they are discharged like myself. I went in to their branch within the last 9 months and I had missed the deadline by 2 weeks!! How gutted was I?? Co-op is definitly the best. My nearest branch is over 60 miles away but I use the internet banking and post office
