i am totaly in big trouble,i have never missed apayment on anything in my life now i am about to go bankrupt, my company is going bust which then leads to me having no job, i will lose my home and everything as bank has security on it through business loan and overdraft etc. i cannot get a job that pays enough to cover my mortgage and living expenses etc, as these are stupidly high through me living the high life through my business because i could, it could afford it, but now with the credit crunch and people going bust on me they are going to take me with them,my own fault i know, i should have saved for a rainy day but i didnt.
my main question is how do you rent a half decent property when they credit check you? i will be refused, and a council house house is not really an option as ive asked, there arent any, plus i dont want one really, i just want to rent private so has this option also been removed by bad credit ratings.???? help i have 3 young kids, cannot believe that my creditors wont help in any way nor mortgage company, sod em all. i asked for 6 month mortgage break which they said on paperwork i qualified, no chance cause i have a second charge on home, asked loan company to halve payments of £800 to £400 for 6 months, no chance, asked bmw finance to take half payment for 3 months , no chance, they wanted to send it straight to debt collecting agency and reposess the car, why does it say contact your creditors they will always help,NOT, THEY ARE NO HELP THEY JUST MADE ME FEEL WORSE,i have now cancelled all direct debits to these people and they can take my house, in negative equity, my cars , the lot, just please tell me how do i rent a house with bad credit history from today as today is the day i for the first time in 32 years missed a payment.

Hi I.I
Sorry to learn of your position - you are not alone and many have been there and come through much stronger.
As you have Identified the key is keeping a roof over the families head.
You will need to plan and build a deposit for private rental - if I read your posting correctly you have only just missed payments so whilst you know what the position is this is unlikely to reflect on your credit file for a while.
Even with possible future adverse credit rating you will be surprised what you will be able to rent - however the deposit will be greater than that for somebody with a clean credit report.
I suggest that you contact an expert to specifically review your situation and work a strategy that is best for you.
all the best alan

Hi,
Renting after Bankruptcy is not impossible so long as your honest. you may mind some of the main letting agents are not so helpful, but ultimately it is the landlords decision.
Try looking through the local papers for private rentals rather than through the agents that way you can explain your situation directly to the landlord. As Alan says the agents may use your Bankruptcy to demand a higher security deposit or a lump sum of rent upfront.
All the best

hi l.l
you are in a difficult place and a lot of things are going on. It can be difficult to make rational decisions because of the creditor pressure as it all closes in on you.
You need a plan.
you need to plan carefully about the priorities such as family and home, then decide what is the best way to deal with the other challenges such as business, car, unsecured debts etc.
Once you have a plan and a timeframe then you will be surperised at how much more in control you will feel. People ofetn find that it is the uncertainty that causes insecurity so getting a plan is key!.
there are a number of experts on the forum that can go through your situation - for free! - and work out a plan of action.
take care
