Can anyone give me some advice please,we have heard of some awfull stories of people being named&shamed in newspapers after going bankrupt,can anyone tell me if this is true and what exactly do they publish in the newspaper regarding your'e bankruptcy is it published in local papers? i have never seen any bankruptcy notices in newspapers but believe it does happen,we are seriously considering going bankrupt but everyone knowing ie my family is really worrying me.

Hi

yes your bankruptcy would normally be advertised in your local press and if you had moved house recently it would also be advertised in the area you previously lived in.

The advert is usually in the classified section, approx an inch by an inch in size and will give your name, address, occupation and unique bankruptcy number.

It gives no details of the debts themselves.

Most of us don't look, clearly you don't or you would have been aware of them before now. How likely is it that your family reads them?

However it only takes just one mindless fool that knows you to see the advert and it could be common knowledge in the area in hours.
