Hello. Third post from me; my court date is 1st May and I'm trying to get my forms completed as accurately as possible so just wanted to check a couple of small things.
Firstly, when listing my creditors, and some of these have changed hands (to debt collections agencies, for example), is it ok to name the current creditor alone, or best to try and specify who the debt was originally taken out with as well (there's not a lot of space available)?
Secondly, with respect to my likely IPA, can/does the OR give any scope for suspending this to allow essential household items to be purchased, such as a fridge, cooker, etc? I'm moving into a new property due to marital breakdown and won't have any items to take with me, and it'll take forever and a day to save up for these (just the essentials, no luxuries).
Finally, my wife went BR last month and has since set up a basic account (not sure if I'm allowed to specify who with?); however, despite informing them explicitly of her BR status, they've issued her with a debit card. Is this 'within the rules' as it were, or have they made a mistake?
As always, sincere thanks - the advice I'm receiving from this site is making a tough, painful process a great deal more manageable. It's an absolute life-line. |

you're right there isn't a great deal of space. But you could put the original debt owner's details in section 13 - additional information.
Not sure you will be able to buy new but as you say these are essential household items and you will need to avoid IPA contributions to the tune of the their cost. Just advise the examiner and all will be well I'm sure.
The debit card is entirely the banks choice and does not contravene any insolvency rules as it is not credit. In this case even if it was it would be ok as your wife informed the bank of her bankrupt status.

As ever, John, thanks. While it obviously won't be for a fair bit, is there any means of donating to this site? It's been a huge help (far more so than CAB, I have to say, who gave my wife some woefully erroneous advice; I realise of course that they're not the experts this site and its contributors are, but I do feel uneasy that many people in my situation might not know of this site and so go in with a head full of misconceptions, not to mention additional, unnecessary stress and worry) and when I'm able, I'd like to make whatever contribution I realistically can; unfortunately, I anticipate a hell of a lot of people being in this position over the coming few years.

bless you what a kind thought particularly in view of the fact that your focus might quite understandably be on your own current financial position right now.
I do not think there is any way for you to make such a donation directly at this time.
Perhaps a little research could be done to identify any insolvency related charities.
Please let us know if you find anything then perhaps we could persuade the site administrators to form an association with said charity with some form of invitation for donations detailed on the site.
You just may have started something here stanton.
What are your thoughts admin???

As soon as I'm over this final hurdle I'll do that, John, and let you know asap. I'm aware that all the experts - and posters, of course, whose experiences and insight are invaluable - give their time freely and while it's never going to be possible (I expect?) for a site of this nature to have sufficient funds to pay a living wage for someone's skills even on a part-time basis, nevertheless it must cost a fair amount to maintain. I've trawled the net for advice since my own problems became untenable and I can honestly say that - with sincerely no disrespect to the other sites that exist - BRhelp is by far and away the best, quickly accessible, free, and expert resource that I've found. It seems only right that those of us who benefit should try to put a little back if, and when, we can - short of bereavements, if bankruptcy and using this site doesn't open people's eyes, and encourage a little more empathy and altruistic thought (those things we've been so terribly lacking in for a good many years in this country), well, I really don't know what will.
