We have lived in rented property for the last 4 months and haven't paid any council tax to the borough. They are aware we are having financial hardship. When I go BR (hubby going BR after me) can i include these arrears? We still have another 8 months on our lease so intend to stay in the property and start paying council tax afresh. Will we be allowed to do this? The same goes for the phone bill arrears of £350.00. Bit cheeky maybe but we are struggling badly to keep going. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Not 100% sure but I think you can include them. Any that occur after your BR I don't think you can.

One of the experts will be along to give a definitive answer.

You can include any outstanding council tax for the previous year(s) in the bankruptcy. You can then start paying the council tax for year 2009/10 which commences 1st April

Hope this helps

Sorry forgot this bit and pressed the button - The same goes for your phone bill arrears - if you are going to have a new supplier - If the debt is included in the bankruptcy they will cancel the contract - if you wish to continue with that supplier you will find that they will want you to clear the debt
