| we are discharged bankrupts(2 years now)and we really need a car. we have a son with cystic fibrosis and a son with diabetes, not to mention two others!! and we can't get credit.is there anything we can do? |

Hi stuartdw. There are places that will give credit but the interest rates will be alot higher! Can you get any help with a vehicle? My auntie is registered disabled and she got a grant to help her get a car.

To be eligible for a motability car, you need to be in receipt of the higher rate mobility allowance, which is part of the DLA.
You can apply online via this site:

I think your son with cystic fibrosis would probably qualify for it.

hi thanks to you all for replying.my son with cf got turned down for mobility-can you believe it!friends and family begged me for ages to apply but i felt guilty and when i did they said no-even went to aoppeal.yet we have 'fakers' all around us who quite easily get cars.whats going on? anyway,soz to moan,we obviously need to forget about it. thanks again for your help-i may need it again soon. P.S WE ARE BANKRUPT SO MAYBE WE MIGHT BE ABLE TO HELP ANYONE STARTING BANKRUPTCY ETC. SHOUT US IF WE CAN ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS! carly

I'm sorry to hear that Carly - it really winds me up when you hear about the fakers raking it in and people who need help have to struggle. I speak from personal experience - my dad was disabled and my mum was his carer and they had to fight for what they were entitled to.
Sorry for the rant, as you can tell it's something I feel very strongly about!

thanks skippy13, you are right,genuine people who need help shouldn't have to struggle.my grandparents were in a similar dilemma and my graqndad died waiting for help.anywaY musnt grumble! in case anyone wanted to know here is our story: we have 4 children,one has cystic fibrosis and two years ago,2 days before christmas and half way through an IVA our 2 year old was diagnosed with diabetes. the iva went on to fail and we had to declare bankruptcy.going bankrupt was easier than we thought,although initially expensive.the judge was understanding as he realised the financial strain of cf and only one parent being able to work.(i am the carer)we were so scared but the relief when it was over was immense.we rent our house so we didnt lose that and they let us keep the car for hospital etc.of course now we can't get credit and we really need a new car! but at least that huge weight of debt is gone.we didnt have to pay back any money as we had so much going out on petrol,parking,hospital stays etc.so in that respect we are lucky. if i can help anyone with the experiences of going bankrupt let me know. sorry skippy i wasn't intending on the life story through your message!! p.s i loooove that quote about the present(saw it on kung fu panda)!! carly thanks for your kindness |

Im with you guys on this one- I have been told I have to make an offer on my car this week or it will be seized. meaning my dad 60 miles away in a home will get a visit when I can get the train fare.
My mother and sister dont drive so I always done the run......
My car is of relatively low value so didnt expect to get turned down
In some respects I know B/R was the only route to go but I absoloutely cant stand it tho it has only been 2 weeks and im still doing paperwork etc.
I really just want to be left to get on with life and certainly dont feel a sense of relief like some have

These both do different car loans such as Higher Purchase for different financial backgrounds.

I have a motability car due to arthritis in both knees and Lymphodema in right legs .
I had to apply twice for motabilty and then appeal it took 12 months
i have pdf file that may help if you like i can email it to you

out of doors. However, it can give rise to walking problems because of
shortness of breath, particularly when it has reached the stage of being severe.
The effects of cystic fibrosis on a person's mobility will need to be assessed
on the evidence available in an individual case.

| hi everyone,thanks for all your replies.i'll try to respond to ball-sorry if i forget anyone!paulsc-you are right cf doesn't give riseto a need for assistance(lower rate) but it means if you struggle to walk because you get out of breath,go blue around the lips and start to vomit then you may get mobility at the higher rate. the disease progresses differently in each individual.elliot is pretty rough with it but i know a 15 yr old who is on oxygen and is tube fed.that said i also know an 8 year old who does well and has noi.v's(antibiotics through a vein) elliot has these every 3 m0nths for 2-3 weeks without fail. anyway best not go on(again)! thanks for checking it out for me paulsc.thanks sjbyron-welcome turned us down!! gonna check out the other one though.ta all |
