I have 8 debts creditors not been in contact or 6yrs but paid a token payment of £1 to most a LLYods debt not be paid for 4 yrs as stopped cashing cheque i was sending ..

I am reluctant to check credit file as creditrs will find me before bankrutcy

Is there any chance that some of theses debt would be written off and forgotten about

I don't think that checking your credit file will alert your creditors as it's not the creditors that you write to. It might be worth checking your credit files (Equifax, Experian and Callcredit) to see what debts are active.

Tomorrow is a mystery, yesterday is history, today is the present, a gift to make the most of.

Paul do as Skippy mentioned, you can check your file online for 30 days for free. You will find out instantly if they have been written off or satisfied

Alternatively, if you don't have a debit card with which to get your 30 day trial (you just cancel before the end of the 30 days), you can write to them and request a copy. I think it cost about £2.

The glimmer gets brighter all the time

Hi

may I just say that in this world of dog eat dog I would not assume that checks on your own credit report are not forwarded onto creditors themselves by the checking agencies.

Of course I can't be sure but when local authorities "sell" electoral roll info to would be marketeers (which they do, as does, I believe, certain departments of the NHS etc etc)it wouldn't surprise me and logic also tells me that there is profit to be made by the agencies as this is red hot info.

As far as the old debts go, of those you have been making token payments to none would be written off by the Statute of Limitations as by making any payment you are recognising the debt is yours.
It only "works" (potentially) if all contact has been severed for a minimum 6 years.

As you plan bankruptcy for those debts you have been making a contribution to, the Lloyds debt will be included anyway.

If that's the case John my creditors must be sick of me - I'm about to apply for my files for the 4th or 5th time!

Hi Skippy

well of course the agencies would only be benefiting the creditors if your whereabouts were passed to them pre bankruptcy as paulsc is at present so in your case there's no advantage in disclosing.

I confess I have never bothered to try and update my credit file but I know I should soon as it's been almost 3 years now. Particularly worrying is a report I paid for 2 months ago which on no less than 9 of my previous debts a default is still being registered month on month and the crazy thing is there is no mention of my bankruptcy!!

And every single one of us is at the mercy of the main 3 agents, bankrupts and non bankrupts alike, when applying for credit so how did my bankruptcy not get listed. Does that mean if I get the defaults sorted directly with the creditors and they post as satisfied, that with no BR on the file I'm as clean as a whistle??????

Don't worry...I really am not tempted by the thought in any way whatsoever!!!

I've applied for mine yet again as I think everything has been updated except Tesco. I wrote to them to ask them to update it last year, but due to various things going on I never got around to chasing them up. When I know if everything else is ok I'll try and get Tesco sorted out!
