Please help, I have been seeking advice through Melanie Giles and have been advised that bankruptcy is my best option. I am a teacher and am scared that I will lose my job and that my employers will find out about my circumstances. Please can anyone inform me of whether this will happen! thank you
Hi there. Welcome to the group. You will find so much help on here. I too, like you, worried before filing for BR which I did on 7th April. I am a Registered Care Home Manager and have been told it is not a problem. One of the experts will confirm but as far as I am aware with you being in the teaching profession this will not be a problem.
I know how you feel. I am an accountant and went Bankrupt last October, and was worried that i would be sacked on the spot or that my employers would at the very least be informed.
As it turned out, the official receiver told me that she had no interest in telling my employer and the only thing they have found out is that my tax code has changed to NT, which HMRC tewll them and dont give a reason for
Your circumstances may be different because of the type of work that you do but i doubt you would lose your job - try not to worry until you know for definate what will happen
I am sure one of the experts can give you an answer
Firstly welcome to the forum As far as i know teachers are not one of the occupations that you cannot undertake when BR so in that sense you should be fine. The OR may well contact your employer (or at least the payroll dept) to organise an Nil Tax (NT) IPA (Income Payment Agreement) so any tax you would have paid in the yaer you go BR is given to the OR. But apart from that your employer should be none the wiser and your job should be safe.

Don't worry or know that worrying is as effective as trying to solve an algebra equation by chewing bubble gum.(Baz Lurman) Life's too short!!!
