Hi there. I have posted a question before which you kindly answered for me. I have an appt at court to declare myself bankrupt next week but I am concerned about my bond held by my landlord for my rented flat which I am about to leave and also my final utility bills which are currently paid up to date. I am more than happy to clear these but will I be allowed to or will they be put under the order of the receiver? I am also concerned about my mobile phone and mob internet, I wish to keep these which are also paid up to date. regards, slightly confused and terrified.
It is always best to be pro-active with contracts/companies you want to carry on doing business with so I would recommend speaking to your landlord. Depending upon the rental agreement the OR may need to inform your landlord of your BR but the bond should not be a problem provided the rent is up to date and there isn't any damage to the flat.
The utility bills will not be put under the order of the receiver so you should pay these as normal. Other users on this forum have not had any problems keeping their mobile/Internet contracts but it may be worth speaking to the provider to see if they will continue to let you keep the contract once you are BR.
We didn't inform our utility supliers when we went bankrupt as we were up to date and didn't owe anything. We have sky and broadband (included with telephone services), I have also successfully upgraded my mobile phone contract whilst bankrupt - done this online with vodafone). The only thing to happen was with the water company - they stopped taking the money out of our account for our direct debit and when I phoned up to find out why they said it was because we were bankrupt, they wiped off the remainder of the old bill and set up a new direct debit for the forthcoming bill.
I didn`t inform any of mine, either...and all is tickety boo!. My O.R, never requested that i do it, so why open a can of worms??...do we Have to inform utilities?. This point could do with clarification.
