Going to petition for BR in a few weeks, up until now I've been paying my gas and electricity monthly direct debit with British Gas (regular meter) and good payment history with them.

Once I've gone BR will British Gas "insist" on pre-payment meters, or are they more likely to ask for a "deposit"?

Obviously I'll need to change the method of payment atleast temporarily as my Bank Account will be frozen

I do live with my girlfriend, I suppose the gas / electric could go into her name and account, would that make British Gas happier? Am reluctant to do this though as my girlfriend only moved in last month and I'd rather not ask her to have to do this.

Thanks

Also, if I have no choice but to go the pre-payment route will I have to pay the costs of changing the meter?

Hi, You can request payment cards for these, as well as T.V e.t.c. You just pop to your local shop that operates paypoint, and pay want you want to onto them...it`s certainly cheaper than a meter, and gives you better control, because they can`t help themselves to your funds, like they can with Direct debits.
I never informed them i was B.R.....didn`t need to.
