hi just wondering, i had two mobile phones with a company that have now passed the debt on to two different recovery companies, both companies are now asking for different amounts and i don't know which debt goes with which phone do they not have to tell me which debt they are trying to collect, i know i owe them but now relying on my wife to support me, and cant ask her to pay for anything else, i cant claim jobseekers yet as i quit my job due to personal reasons, i am sure that i will be declaring bankruptcy soon (as we decided that i shall be a house husband and look after the kids) because of all the stresses and phone calls i know i cant pay anyone but should i agree with my wife to pay small amounts each month forever i owe in excess of £30,000 and own nothing please any advice more than welcome, thanks.

Yes, the recovery companies should tell you which debt they are collecting for. Normally this would be the account/tel number.

You should speak to the CAB, CCCS or National Debtline about your current financial position. If you have decided to declare BR then there really isn't any point in paying token amounts to creditors as no matter how much you pay they will always want more than you can afford.

Once you have found out which company is collecting for which mobile tell them that you are speaking to the CAB regarding your position and tell them that the appointment is 10 days ahead. They 'should' put your account on hold and not call you for 7-10 days or at least they did with me. Then you can tell them that you are declaring BR (if this is what you decide) and don't bother answering their calls again until you are BR when you can give them the BR ref number.

Any letters you have from the debt collectors should say on there which firm they are representing.

Mine always did.

The glimmer gets brighter all the time
