I've read various postings on the subject of keeping your mobile phone contract. Many people had theirs cancelled (even if they didn't owe any money), many people didn't. I also noticed some people who did not owe any money just left them off their creditors and so kept the contract.

So my question is;

Do you have to tell the OR or declare a mobile phone company as a creditor if you do not owe them any money, and if not then would they find out anyway?

Hi, The question was never asked by my O.R, so i never bothered opening a can of worms...Utilities, and phone companies, are happy as long as your paying them regularly..

Just passing on, what i did. I didn`t of course, include any of these on my S.O.A, as i didn`t have any debts to them.

P.s. Open a CO-OP cashminder in advance of BR, and set up your Direct Debits. An expert on here did mention that you donot need to tell your O.R about this account...then i guess, it wouldn`t be frozen, although the O.R would tell them thhey have no interest in it..

What a long winded reply, to a short question!!.

Just thought of something else, if you don't declare a phone company as a creditor but then claim it on your expenses then won't the OR query it?

What is the allowable maximum expense for a mobile monthly?

I had a contract with O2 and didn't declare them as a creditor because they weren't one (monthly payments made in full every month).

On the SoA I listed the mobile and put down £60pcm for both mine and my husband's (we both require them for work). I also listed the home telephone and broadband costs (another £40 per month or so) as I am required to maintain a home phone line for work and need to be able to download reasonable volumes of information periodically.

Neither amount was queried by the OR and we continued with the contracts for 7 months following the bankruptcy.

One word of warning - if you are with O2, don't let them know you are bankrupt unless you want your contract cancelled. I let them know (as I did want to leave the contract) and the phone was cut off within 30 minutes. Luckily I was pre-warned and had a pay-as-you-go simcard ready to put into it!
