The Inland Revenue have presented me with a bankruptcy petition - Court date this Friday! I have left it so late, initially due to burying my head and secondly in an attempt to scrape the payment together. For the past two years I have been fighting a legal case with an ex-client (claim has been re-assigned to me personally) and they have finally agreed to mediate. This will take place in the next two months and provide a large settlement once resolved. The claimed amount is 400 times greater than the outstanding Inland Revenue Dept. I have all case documents, including the guarantee of mediation. My main concern is that; any mediation would be seriously jeopardised by my bankruptcy. I would go as far as to say; the offer of mediation would be withdrawn altogether. I would really appreciate some advice on the best way forward.... Would the Revenue / Court be willing to offer an extension based on this scenario, bearing in mind all out-standing debt would be taken care of following mediation. Alternatively, if BR were to progress, the chances of realising any funds at all would be extremely unrealistic. Many Thanks
The only thing that I can suggest is that you attend the bankruptcy hearing on Friday and explain to the District Judge your position and request that the bankruptcy petition be set aside.
