Hi there,
After spending an hour or so reading through other posts I am still at a loss.
I have looked at the advice on the main site aswell and have come to the conclusion that I cannot repay my debt via IVA as I am on Incapacity Benefit.
I have also seen the price to apply for Bankruptcy and also noticed various people mention that people on certain benefits may get a discount.
Being on IB would I qualify for this discount??
I have considered banckruptcy for a while but have been just about managing, only since applyin to NatWest to upgrade my account from their basic Step account to a current account I had my account closed also I hav applied to all the main High Street banks with no success of opening a basic account and even Citibank have turned me down. I am waiting on a call from Think Banking after reading another posters problem on bank accounts.
Any help would be gratefully appreciated. Is there a set minimum amount for declaring Bankruptcy as I haven't worked out the total figure but believe it to be over £10k.

Hi Storm,
Welcome to the forum,
Firstly IB would qualify for the discount.
The minimum amount is £750 for declaring Bankruptcy.

Would I be able to include outstanding utility bills in a Bankruptcy claim?
Having just changed gas suppliers I have an outstanding gas bill also my electricity bill is outstanding and they have put me onto a pre-payment meter and are taking money off me to pay that bill, my electricity bill has doubled since this has happened. |

Hi Storm,
If they are aged debts i.e last years utilities you can include them, I would contact the supplier to inform them of your intentions and discuss this with them.

Just to point out that there is no actual minimum amount you need to owe to petition for your own bankruptcy. The £750 referred to by Brett relates to creditors petitions only.

One piece of good news I suppose is that Think Banking have opened a bank account for me which is one major problem sorted.
