Hi there

I was made bankrupt in 2004 and i am struggling to get any information on what happens next! i want to know if i will be able to get a mortgage or credit, and if applying for these things in the future do i have to say that i was once a bankrupt on applying for the rest of my life? i am looking to get married and just want to get on with things now and a mortgage is critical.

Hi Dtr, sure that experts will be on at some point but as far as I know it is 6 years that your credit is affected. I think you have to go onto websites to repair your history. Kallis or Skippy will probably be able to guide you.

Hi,

It's 6 years that the debts should fall off your credit file but you may need to chase the creditors. Have a look at http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?s=967822033d1db308731de7988d5a5ca6&t=677875 as this explains the process of cleaning up your credit file.

You only need to tell creditors that you have been declared BR if they ask. If they don't then you are under no obligation to tell them once you have been discharged.
