I have reached the stage where I may have to declare bankruptcy, but had been planning on carrying out a course in insurance investigations & working as a contractor to the insurance industry.
My major concern is that if I declare bankrupt, this may reduce or even totally ruin any chances of pursuing a career in this field.
Please could you tell me if I would still be eligible to work in this area, as a declared bankrupt?

It would depend on any wording in your employment contract. The only difficulties arise where someone needs to be licenced ie a mortgage broker or indeed a croupier both those professions would not tolerate a bankruptcy order. I have dealt with accountnat, solcitors, barrister and each month around 15/20 police officers, for whom 10 years ago a bankruptcy order would have meant dismissal from the force, these days that cannot happen I have had a couple of forces refuse to allow an officer an IVA preferring them to go down the Bankruptcy route as it is done and dusted in 12 months as opposed to 60 months in an IVA

Sorry i cannot be more specific but it depends on your particular contarct of employment
