Hi,
Just completing an IPOQ. I contribute half to my wifes car she bought recently (since my original interview). As my car is paid for (a gift from my wifes mum...an old banger), isnt it reasonable that I contribute to the family car. My car is 2 door....and I have 2 small children.
Will they let me claim for half my wifes £240 payment?
Regards

No they wont, each person has to be independantly financialy stable. The majority of your surplus will be paid towards your creditors not to pay someone elses creditors |

Thanks, so is an IPA the houshold expenses or just mine...I am confused now. After all, the house is in my wifes name, but I pay towards the mortgage. Am I not paying my wifes creditors there too? Shall I live in the shed?

How much is the rent on the shed?
In all seriousness, the OR will allow for you to pay a fair share of all household expenses, These would be the rent, bills, food etc. The OR will not allow you to pay for two cars. A fair share means pro rata with your income so if you earn 50% of the income then you will be expected to pay for 50 % of the Joint outgoings etc |

Hi,
I am not detailing my wifes income. She contributes £500 to the household income and this was never questioned. She works 2 days a week, and while £500 is not a % of our income ratio, she has her own debts to pay.
Also, my car is paid for (given to me), so to be paying out for one car in the family seems reasonable. If not, what are my options if I need to buy a new car...as my 2 door is not proving very suitable for school runs..

p.s. Shed is made of solid gold, but I didnt list it on my SOA |

The OR has a spreadsheet that calculates contributions to household expenses based on income.
this is where all the household costs go into the picture and all the expenses go in. However they would certainly exempt your contribution to the car,
If your wife has her own debts ( the car being one of them ) then her contribution would be less than her actual income,
