Hi all
Well I am so relieved as I got to take out all my salary today! Phew. I am still waiting for a response from Coop if they let me have a basic account....been over two weeks though!?And Natwest appearantly have accepted me...but I dont believe this until I see it for myself!!!
I have no debt directly with my RBS bank and haven't had for as long as I have had the account (5years+). My debt is with RBS credit card and MINT...does that make any difference wether or not they have any right to off-set money/take money from my account??
Also, even though I have moved and NO ONE knows where I now live, Apex debt collectors(Barclay) have written to the 'Occupier' and are seeking me....??? How do they find these things out?? I felt so scared and sad when I read that letter specially since I finally am nearer to actually finally have the money to go ahead with BR! Should I respond to this letter..??
Any comforting words of wisdom out there today...?

There is a complete backlog at the Coop Bank as they are inundated with bankrupts seeking new accounts. All banks are aupposed to cater for bankrupts but one can really only rely on the Coop and I, for one, recommend this bank to all debtors with financial problems.
The problem with holding an RBS account is that if you have a debt with a subsidiary of them - in this case, Mint - you do run the risk of them offsetting. It is illegal but who is going to take on the might of a bank. They get away with it!
With the ongoing recession, debt collection agencies have access to some very sophisticated systems allowing them to track you down throughout the world. If your name is registered somewhere, they will find you. You can try to get them off your back by informing them that you are going to make yourself bankrupt. However, until you have a date, it is unlikely that they will heed your words.
It does sound as if you are getting there and at least you can sleep safe in the knowledge that it doesn't really matter if creditors take legal action against you, it will all cease when you finally make yourself bankrupt.

Hi Blackie
Thank you so much for the reply.
I will still cross my fingers for the Coop and who knows- maybe Ill get that Natwest account!? Ill be happier once I get a new account sorted.
Last question: If a bank DOES want to take money from someone's account..how much can they take? Daft question really , but surely they are not allowed to just empty an account?? People need to eat etc!?

Sorry to disappoint you, but they can clear out your account if they wish.
I have had this done to me twice, once with National Girobank (now Alliance and Leicester) when they totally cleared me out on payday, and once with Halifax when they took £34 pounds to offset against a 20k debt.
The glimmer gets brighter all the time
