Will my bank account be frozen? Have BR court date for the 26th October which is a Monday and my husband gets his pay on the Friday - I'm worried that our account will be frozen before we can pay everything that goes out on direct debits - rent council tax etc. If frozen we will have no money to pay our immediate bills. Our account is with the co-op it is a bank account with debit card but no overdraft and we don't owe them any money. |

Is this the Co-op Cashminder account? If so, then it shouldn't be frozen but I would withdraw some money before you declare BR just in case. |

I opened a new account just before going bankrupt, and changed my direct debits and wages over to this one. I dont think they're very quick at freezing bank accounts, mine was still open after six weeks. I had to go into my branch and tell them myself, as i was getting bank charges added. I think as you are with the co-op, it might be better to switch to their cashminder account if you've not already got that, and they can transfer your direct debits over. I would do this now. |

Hi there - my usual advice on this tyoe of post is to open a new account unlinked to any of your debts (hopefully you have done this with the Co-Op|) when completing the forms for bankruptcy - on the section which states 'list all bank accounts' list your other bank accounts but not the Co-op account - when you have your chat with the OR after your bankruptcy order has been made, which usualy takes place by telephone, you can then inform them that you have openend a new account for salay etc, and hand them over the account details etc. This way you save the hassle of having the account frozen (which happens automatically) andf then unfrozen, the OR would always unfreeze the account but this can take up to 5 working days and i would hate for anyone to go any period of time without access to their funds. The OR is in full agreement with you dealing with things in this way - it save s them work!
Good luck with the hearing and a debt free future
