I went bankrupt in 2007 and was discharged within 6 months. I have worked for 30 years in general insurance but because of my bankruptcy I am treated worse than a mass murderer. The FSA are the worst offenders. I wrote to them and asked if I could be directly authorised and their reply was " all cases are dealt with on a case by case basis, you will have to go through the normal application process" This means a 30 page form and a non-refundable £1500 fee. I cannot get a normal job in the industry as all positions are credit checked and a bankruptcy is a red light no matter what the circumstances.
What can I do? |

Your credit file shouldn't say you are BR once you have been discharged. The debts included in the BR may appear as 'partially settled' or 'satisfied' but shouldn't say 'default', which they do when you are BR.
Have you cleaned up your credit file - http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?s=cb2f11b2c3b30cb86f39aa7acf342114&t=677875.
If the FSA won't accept someone that has been discharged from BR and their credit file has been updated then the only option may be to wait until the debts drop off the credit file 6 yrs after you were declared BR.
The other problem will be if you are asked whether you were BR you would still need to say 'yes' even after you credit file is completely clean so if the jobs you are interested in request this information then there isn't a lot you can do.
I suppose the other option is that if you can't get a job with another company than maybe think about starting your own business so you wouldn't have the problem of the credit check. |

If you haven't cleaned up your credit files then there is a good chance that they still show you as defaulting.
If you have a look at my blog there are the details of the credit reference agencies and other information about your CRFs.
Good luck x

Thank you for your comments. I agree with the bit about starting my own business but to do that I legally have to register with the FSA and then the problems start.
