Hi,
I went voluntarily bankrupt in 2006 and was discharged 6 months later.
The bankruptcy is not on my file and i have a good credit score. I have been offered a mortgage by lending arm of my bank. I have a good deposit for a modest house. I am not on the insolv website (I searched) however I know that I must declare old BK to mortgage advisor. BK's are checked for between Exch of contract and completion, would this be the OS1 / OS2 at the Land Registry as well as the Insolv website? Do you know if Woolwich lend to 3 yr disch bankrupts and also if I tell mortgage advisor would he be duty bound to tell the bank that I should not have been pre approved for credit/ mortgage due to this not being on my bank "file" and search for another lender?
I dont know if I should walk away to save my credit rating with the bank but I really want this house and get my life moving in right direction.

As you are discharged you only need to tell a creditor that you have been BR if they ask you. You do not have a duty to declare this up front.

The debts that were included in your BR should remain on your credit file for 6 yrs from the date you were BR so they will not drop off until 2012. If you have cleaned up your credit file then the debts should now show as satisfied/partially settled rather than default.

I can't help you with whether the Woolwich would lend to someone who was BR 3 yrs ago but a good deposit always helps the situation. Whether or not you tell the mortgage advisor or not is up to you but mortgage lenders normally ask whether or not you have been BR when applying for the mortgage.

Hi, BK is not on my credit reports only links with addresses. There are no defaults/ partially settled etc on there. I have an overdraft, c card etc. I am not making this up. This is why I have this conundrum at present.
If anyone is able to help with questions in my first post I would be really grateful.
Has anyone got a mortgage at a reasonable rate 3 years down the line?

Hi Tania,

What credit reference agency have you got your file from?

The BR should still be showing on your file as stated previously.
If not then you are v lucky
