I currently have debts that I cannot pay as I am not working and have no income so am considering bankruptcy. I don't have any assets, apart from my car which is on finance and I'm also unable to repay this so it may be repossessed at any time. Please advise whether I qualify for bankruptcy and also whether I have to remain resident in the UK after becoming bankrupt. Due to my circumstances I am considering relocating back to Africa, where I am from but don't know how this affects bankruptcy.

Hello there and welcome to the forum

What is the total amount of your unsecured debt? if under £15k you may qualify for a Debt Relief Order (contact your local Citizens Advice Bureau) if your debts are over £15k you will need to consider bankruptcy. Once your bankruptcy is completed you will have no need to remain in the UK if you do not wish to do so
