Hi This is my first post, and I am quite nervous I have just received the forms needed for my bankruptcy and I was wondering if there was anyone or anywhere I can go to get someone to help me fill them in? I have read them over and over and I have been lurking on here for over a week getting tips but I am so unsure about filling them in I am sure I will forget something or do something wrong! Also I dont have any statements or anything as I usually shred everything Thanks for listening |

Hi Applebabe I have just gone BR and asked loads of questions on the forum! With the help of Brett (over the phone) I was able to do the forms myself and petition for my own BR. Don't be nervous - everyone here is in the same boat and will want to help you.

You could try contacting your local CAB as they should be able to help you, although you may have to wait a while for an appointment.
I filled the forms in online, as you can keep changing things until you know you have filled them in correctly. I kept changing them until just before I submitted the forms!
Tomorrow is a mystery, yesterday is history, today is the present, a gift to make the most of.

Hi Applebabe, I posted in another thread about this! I paid £450-00 for a "Bankruptcy service" from a company in Manchester. The citizens advice bureau checked with them and, apparently,l the £450-00 was simply for them to fill out the form with me on the telephone. This forum is the best info' source I have found, wish I'd looked earlier, but go and talk to the C.A.B. if you need face to face help. |

I can also recommend Gill Hankey of the Bankruptcy Advisory Service - you can google that to find her details. Am not sure how much she charges, but she and her team have a great reputation for customer service.
For an informal chat about any financial difficulties, or advice as to the options available, I can be contacted via my website - www.melaniegiles.com |

WOW! Thanks everyone for all the advice I have so much going on in my life at the moment i feel like I am on a different planet most of the time. I am today starting a new job and I need a bank account for my wages to be paid into, but obviously I cant use my own as they will be one of my debtors and if I put my wages in there they will take them as part of my debt, which they did last month. Would I be able to put them into my friends savings account? He has offered as he no longer uses it and just hasnt bothered to close it, but I am scared there will be a problem as it is not in my name although we have the same first initial of M our surnames are different. I know from reading on here that you should not open an account until after you BR, as they will close it. Any advice will be much appreciated.

Hi would suggest you give the COOP a call and ask to ope a CASHMINDER account - this is ok before Br and won't be closed.

Hi Applebabe,
If you need this account for your new job then open one although the account may be frozen upon the Bankruptcy you will not necessarily loose the account as the trustee can give you permission to keep this account so long as the bank are not a creditor within your Bankruptcy.
You could, however use your friends account, but will only be able to use the cash point and if you require direct debit facilities then your friend will have to sign each DD to set these up.
Kind Regards,

Hi Paul, The funny part about that is my new job starting today is with the co-op, as a healthcare assistant! I can only apply by phone or online? And they definately will not close it at my BR? I notice you are a BR specialist just out of curiosity how much do you charge for help in filling in the forms? I can only work part time as I have Juvenile idiopathic arthritis (diagnosed at the age of 7 years old!)which is a very difficult condition to live with as you get older it gets worse and stress is supposed to be a no no, what a laugh. They said I am doing extremely well as they predicted I would be wheelchair bound at 40 but I have just celebrated my 47th birthday and I am still mobile. I have just been made redundant from my previous job but did not work there long enough for a redundancy payout, am going back on Friday for my weeks wage and any holiday wages I am due, I am hoping to get some money to put towards my BR, but in my new job its monthly pay so I wont get anything this month, aarrgh! Would it be a problem to pay my first months wages into my friends account? Do you think they would object at my new job? I really did not want to tell my new employer and new work colleagues of my BR if possible! I feel ashamed and dont want to start off on the wrong foot, so to speak. Thank you for helping me. |

Hi
From my experience the COOP account will be fine as it is the Bnaks that decide to close the account down rather than the OR. The COOP are fine and understand that you are in a pickle.
Needs to be opened by phone on 08457 240 752 or in person at a bank branch.
You may not have enough time to open the account and get info to payroll so you may need to use a different account this month but next month you will be good to go.
You should be aware that after you have petitioned your tax code will change to an NT code and effectively you will be paid your tax in full which will be collected until next April. Just a little administration but nothing to worry about.
If you would like to discuss what we do please go to our website and you can contact us there. Alternatively Brett offers a similar service and you may wish to give him a call too.
Eitherway we would each be able to give you some more info and guidance on the telephone for free.

Paul,
Questions about the NT tax code - you said you don't pay tax until next April - does the money go straight to the OR? Or do I just get paid more and have to keep it aside and pay a big tax bill at the end of the year? I'm a bit confused... |

Hi Matt
hope you are well
You actually get paid what you would have paid the tax man and then this is collected by the OR's agent. So they will want to see the last 3 or so pay slips so they can establish your tax position and agree on a monthly payment that you need to pay back.
