Hello,
I am expecting a one off payment of £100 from work this month and I wondered if I needed to let the RTLU know about this? As this is not a pay rise and is just a one off payment I am hoping they will let me keep this rather than taking a percentage of it. Would it be better not to say anything or should I declare it just to keep on their right side, and hope for the best?
Thanks

Hi Xmas,
You should be able to keep this small amount, as long it is not a regular payment.
i personally would not mention the payment if its a one-off.

officially you should tell them and it is likely they will not be bothered about a small amount and a one off. if they were to want anything it would likely be a % of it not all of it but i think that it is unlikely they will be interested at all

Well I contacted my case officer at RTLU this morning informing him of my one off payment of £100 and he will be taking 70% of this. I can't believe he's taken so high a percentage or even anything at all as this is such a small amount and a one-off payment. So much for Christmas cheer!
Before my case went to RTLU I had a really nice OR in Northampton, who seemed very sympathetic and wasn't too worried about taking these kind of small payments. This one in Ipswich though, sounding really authoritarian and quite severe. I just hope this hasn't opened a can of worms and he now looks at my file again and gives me a BRO. I get discharged in March next year and I will be devastated if, after all, he decides to re-open my file.
Great Christmas I' going to have..... not! Wish I'd never even said anything now.

when you get discharged with no BRO etc you will be happy you told them.. its better than worrying about them finding out at some point. i think you made the right decision Christmas can be enjoyed without the £70 i'm sure

Hi Chester,
I guess you're right. It just would have made a huge difference for Christmas having £100. I just hope by my phoning them, they don't start looking into my file again and decide on further action. The case worker I spoke to sounded very gruff and I wouldn't like to get on his wrong side. Do you know if, when your file goes to RTLU, is the case worker the same as the OR?

not 100% sure but i don't think so the case worker is the person dealing with the case on a day to day level and the OR is the one who has ultimate responsibility for it, i think when it goes to the RTLU its just a matter of tieing up all the loose ends and finishing the paperwork.

When it goes to RTLU you have a whole new set of people looking at your case. They wont be looking at conduct so dont worry about them wanting to reopen your case. as regards to them being meaner with the amount they want to take, this is not suprising as they are the speialist asset realisation unit |

Thanks everyone for replying to my query. I'm a little more relieved to know the bods at RTLU won't poke into my file and do more investigations. Thats the last thing I need right now.
This year has been a year from hell and what with my bankruptcy and my partner currently undergoing tests for a mass on his brain and my mum being diagnosed with breast cancer, this christmas and the forthcoming months are certainly looking very bleak. The last thing I need is to worry about not having enough money for petrol to go and visit my mum and to take my partner to hospital.
I will be glad when the whole bloody bankruptcy business is all over.

When I had a pay cut I contacted the RTLU to have my IPA reassessed and I wished I hadn't bothered - I lost £80 a month and they reduced my IPA by £25 a month!
I know it's done on a sliding scale and I didn't expect to have it reduced by the full amount but I was a bit miffed to say the least! I'm presuming they reduced some of my allowances, but they never sent me a breakdown. With hindsight I should have asked for one, but hey ho!

I know exactly what you mean, Skippy. Initially I had an IPA of £260 per month, but 2 months later, I wrote to inform them of a pay increase of £90 per month and they wrote back with the IPA adjustments down to £241 per month. I did inform them in the letter than although I had received a pay increase, my annual travel costs would be increased in the near future and so any pay rise would be cancelled out by the extra increase in travel payments each month.
My pay has slightly decreased since then and I am now £20 less each month with my take home pay. However, even though it would be nice if they reviewed my IPA and reduced it by £20 to reflect this, I am scared that if I go through the whole I&E again for such a small amount, they may well review my original IPA and decide to increase it much more than the current amount of £241 I am paying.
They are an absolute nightmare and like you, they didn't give me a breakdown of my allowances, so I don't really know which ones were accepted from my original I&E and which ones were not.

If you are struggling make sure you do ask for your payments to be reassessed. You can also ask for a breakdown from the RTLU of what they have allowed and disallowed - as you can see I'm great at taking my own advice!
