| Hi I don't owe the bank any money only other credit cards so do you think I would be able to keep my current bank account. I live in the country a mile from a bus stop and 8 miles from the nearest bank and my state pension is paid into this account. Thanks |

It depends what type of account it is. If it is a basic account, ie: no cheque book or overdraft then possibly, if it is any other type then no.
As far as I am aware the only 2 types of accounts for BR`s are the Coop Cashminder and Barclays basic account.

| Hi is there a post office near you, you can use this with a coop account for free and you get a visa electron debit card |

It's down to the bank whether you can keep your account once you are made BR. I had a full account with Lloyds and they allowed me to keep it.
If you had a full account you would need to have the overdraft taken off, and hand the chequebook to the OR, but I see no reason you couldn't keep it if the bank were happy.

Hello Sue,
An interesting question and one that affects all of that are BR and particularly those who live in rural areas.
I do not know if it assists, my wife and I had a number of accounts before I petitioned for Br - most of them were associated with the businesses we had.
There was one joint account that my wife and I had with Barclays - they allowed Sue (my wife) to take the account into her sole name - although she does not use it...
I opened a Coop cashminder account they are great... Beter than any bank I have ever known and I intend to stay with them after BR - my wife also opened a Coop account (not that she needed to) - but I think she and I wanted to break from the previous regime.
As has been said by Skippy Mick and Charlie a Coop account is a good option (They are very BR friendly) and then use the ;pcal Post Office (free) or simply approach the bank and see what they say - some are human - or so I have been told!
