Hi,
I was made B/r In March last year and was discharged in October. Prior to being made B/R I had worked within investment banking for 15 years before being made redundant

I am now working in a sales environment in another sector which is ok as it pays the bills but just not sure its for me plus the role isnt particularly secure. The problem I now face is that if I wished to move back into working in any kind of financial institution you are subject to a credit check. Even if it is just reception work.

My question is, how long will it take for my record to be clear and for my chances of obtaining a role being improved.

My references from my previous employment in banking are fantastic and I was offered a fantastic opportunity by an ex colleague, but when I enquired with there HR dept I was advised it was the company policy not to employ anyone who had been made BR

The debts that were written off as part of your BR will remain on your credit file for 6 yrs from your BR date however you will always be BR. Even though you are discharged if any potential creditor asks whether you are BR you are obliged to say 'Yes'.

I don't work in the financial sector so cannot say whether employers would only check your credit file or ask you whether you have ever been BR.

It is entirely up to the employer whether you can work for them. The bankruptcy will show on your credit file for six years AFTER you have been discharged. A number of employers will ask you if you have been bankrupt within the last six years.

All the best

I work in Financial Services and I'm just about to go bankrupt. I know I will lose my job but having spoken to the FSA, whilst they won't entertain you whilst you are bankrupt, once discharged, they are really only concerned about how you conducted your business and if there have been any complaints made against you, so long as your bankruptcy was not through any dishonest activities.
I would echo what Blackie has said and it's really down to the employer. Alot of them will be funny about it as if you've done something bad. Although I am self employed, my Network that I am authorised through have said that if I was to come back, I would have to wait a year after discharge but there would be no guarentees.
It would be interesting to know if there are any other Mortgage Brokers or Financial Services people on here who have gone through this as I would like to hear how they have got through it and getting a job afterwards.

you only have to declare that you were ever BR if asked specifically.
after 6 years all the debts pre-BR and the BR order will come of your credit file
