Hi,

I am going bankrupt at the end of the month.

I have a mobile phone contract with vodafone, my plan costs me £35.00 a month, My sister and boyfriend also have a mobile phone contract under my name which they give me the money for at the end of each month and I put the money in bank for their phones ready for when the direct debit comes out. Will the OR let me keep my mobile phone contract?

The OR will not take them away and as long as the costs are reasonable will allow your payment in your essential expenditure

Hi Cpharo

My answer is similar to Debt info except that each regional OR allows different things

The OR will not take away your mobile phone contract but you may have to show why you do not have land line, why you need both land Line and Mobile.

They may look at the tarriff and see if they can obtain cheaper, sometimes they will allow £35 phone as an essential user and the £35 will be part of your income and expenditure, on other occasions it will have to come out of your disposable income.

It is very good of you to help your sister with her mobile phone contract, the OR may decide to call her money as income but only allow you to spend out on one telephone tarrif. for ease it may be appropriate for them to get their own contract and deal with it totally seperate from your accounts.

regards Richard

I was allowed to keep my mobile contract with Vodafone, which was £35 at the time I went BR.

I listed this on my I & E under telephone as I don't have a landline in my name.

Tomorrow is a mystery, yesterday is history, today is the present, a gift to make the most of.
