 i have been given a cheque from my mothers estate

i have been given a cheque from my mothers estate for £4000.if i bank this, will it be taken by the reciever.my bankruptcy ends at the end of this month.

Sorry to hear about you mother

Yes the OR is entitled to it

Even if you do not bank it and the OR finds out they can come chasing.

I hope that my interprettaion is wrong or someone can enlighten us on a loop hole

Hi

it is not the time when you bank the funds, or indeed receive them but rather the time at which you were legaly entitled to the benefit.

i.e. the inheritance belongs to your estate at the time your mother died. Therefore it legally belongs to the Official Receiver.
