Thanks everyone,

Just a quick follow up question. If you do opt to pay a recommended firm to assist with your BR would they be present at court and with your interview with the OR?

I am quite interested in some assistance with my BR mainly because my unsecured debt spans back over 11 years and over this period my debt has been spread across vaious different creditors and consolidation loans. I would estimate that half of my 40K debt was obtained through gambling whilst the rest was just simply over spending, holidays, meals out, CDs, nights out, shopping etc etc. It fear it might be difficult for an OR to accept that is possible to have spent 20K over what I currently earn and have no assets to show for it?

Regards,
mst

Hi Mst,

Most quality bankruptcy specialist firms would offer a service where they are physically present for the court date as well as the OR meeting.

In respect of your level of debt etc, I went BR for significantly more without any assets and there was no problem.

Me too - not a single asset to show for £63k of debt!
I had fantastic telephone advice from Brett England and once you have the forms completed you will feel much more confident at explaining what happened/when.
I don't suppose anything you tell the OR will surprise them or be something they haven't heard a hundred times before.

Hi mst
not proud of but I had more gambling- related debt than your whole debt.I had to talk honestly about that to OR, abit painfull for me to recaLL and face the reality, but believe I did not sense at all that I was causing them a surprise.they continue to be nice ,empathic and polite all through the interview.
As i hve said I had your anxiety an even more before the whole process.I think I got subtantial support and confirmation from the expert in the forum and the main honorary expert Vicki.that was a free psychotherapy session for my panic attack.
Just as an advice, as a result of that I paid a firm a small amount of money to look at my form and say ,well done you do not need to make any changes(in other words I through my money through the window). I think Julian made a good ,and fair point
here regarding having an asset and the need for help, otherwise do not panic and do it is my humble advice. wish you all the luck and hope will chat when you are thousands of pound lighter, then debt free

well Vicki,I used honorary with intention not under value your experience and knowledge, but to put you in your proper position with the forum respectful experts and at the same time to be careful not to make them feel threatened by your expanding insolvency expertees. With the permission of the forum experts I seconed you in using the title honorary(you have my absolute vote).

Cheers abd - you're a star!
I feel priviledged to be called expert but it's a lot to live up to and I would hate someone new to the forum to think I know as much as the real experts. I learn something everyday and am totally addicted to the forum and love helping others where I can.

Julian - what do you think?

Whether I choose to take onboard the help of Brett England or not I am still very positive with regards to my future. I for one will be posting on this site regardless of how my BR goes because as I have already stated, things cannot get any worse than they are right now.

I was thinking to myself earlier how great it would be, to know what your expenditure would be from one month to the next, and I tried to imagine what it would feel like to have an amount of money to live off, with no credit available, and that any extra you had at the end of the month (be it £10 or £100) was yours to spend on a meal out without the need to feel guilty afterwards, then I started to get dizzy and reverted back to reality.

And Vicki, you are an honorary expert in my opinion.
