How long after your discharge are you able to get a debit card from your bank? It is driving me mad having to get cash out all the time to pay for things.

Nationwide won't offer a debit card until 5 years from the date of discharge which I think is a bit unreasonable as it's not credit!

I understand that Barclays now offer a debit card with their basic bank account, although that doesn't have internet banking.

Tomorrow is a mystery, yesterday is history, today is the present, a gift to make the most of.

Hi Sharon,

I have one of the Coop cashminder accounts, which after they remembered to order my one came with the electron card which i use at morrisons, tesco, some online shops and also as said before this comes with the facility to do all your DD's and SO's so it may be worth giving them a call as you can only do this account on the phone or in your local branch.
I also have the added bonus of online banking so i can keep an eye on the account too.
Hope i helped a bit.

Hi Sharron,

It's at the bank's discretion. They'll base their decision on the conduct of your account. As long as your salary has been regular and you've not been bouncing STOs and DDRs, then you should get a debit card shortly sfter discharge.
