I was discharged from BR in August last year, I want to open a bog standard savings account, no bells and whistles just somewhere to put some money an ATM card and online access, CO-OP just turned me down anyone know of a good account where can be accepted? Thank you.

as the interest rates are practically zero for small savers now there is realistically no difference between a basic current bank account and a savers account
when you were turned down by the COOP what account were you applying for?
if it was an account other than a cashminder account reapply for a cshmider account.
if it was a cashminder account send a letter of appeal.
i know a number of people who have more than one cashminder account 1 of which they use as a savings account.

Hi there

I applied to a cashminder Co-Op account and it was first declined.
I wrote a very honest letter of appeal stating my situation and they then let me have the account.
It may have helped that I havent used credit since 2004 and have only ever had basic accounts which have been managed smoothly!

Try a appeal letter sueann!!

I opened a YBS online savings account 6 weeks after I was declared BR, never had an account with them of any sort. Took about 10 minutes to open online.

I haven't! Are you sure you looked at the Yorkshire Building Society, as there is also Yorkshire Bank.

The website is www.ybs.co.uk

Only when the last tree has died, the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realise that we cannot eat money.

Thank you I will try Yorkshire, I am suprised and disappointed really as I have had a perfect running bank account with the Co-Op since last May.

I appealed and the Co-op let me open a Smartsaver account. I also have a savings account and ISA with Yorkshire Building Society and I had no problems opening these.
