You should open a Co-op Cashminder account. This is a bankrupt friendly account and a lot of people on this forum, myself included, use the account. This is a basic bank account so no overdraft and no cheque book.

A Debt Relief Order (DRO) may be better than BR provided you meet the requirements. It only costs £90 and there is no need to go to court. There is information regarding DROs and their criteria at http://debtrelieforder.org.uk/commonly-asked-debt-relief-order-questions and companies that are approved intermediaries at http://debtrelieforder.org.uk/debt-relief-order-competent-authorities

If you do not qualify for the DRO then you may be able to claim a £150 rebate on the £510 BR fee:

Hi and welcome.
At our level of debt and the fact that you are on benefits would meanthat a debt relief order would be more appropriate for you. It is designed for those with debts of less than £15,000 and no assets or disposable income.
Only an authorised body can process these for you. The CAB can do it and there should be a branch in your local area.
There are fees of £90 I believe.
I have not assisted on these so others here may eb able to fully advise better.

Hi Charlotte

First of all have your benefits paid elsewhere in a family members account if possible, which puts you back as the receiver of those benefits instead of your creditor, and pop along the Citizens Advice Bureau and explore your options with them including a debt relief order.
