Posted - 20 May 2011 : 09:20:31 Hi I have recently moved into my mother in laws old house and she had filed for bankruptcy whilst living here although my credit rating was not great I now cannot even get a mobile phone contract, the woman in the shop said it may be to do with this address how do I disassociate myself from this?

Posted - 26 May 2011 : 16:25:54 bad credit rating does not affect the address only the individual concerned. I would check your own credit rating as it seems the problem may lie with yourself rather than the previous occupier.

BR does not affect an address, only the person going BR so it would be worth getting a copy of your credit files and checking them to make sure there is nothing untoward on them. You will need to check Equifax, Experian and Callcredit.
