Posted - 05 April 2012 : 21:47:43 I had a problem with a builder. I paid them, however they did not do the work. The council had been trying to obtain a CPO for the property as it is inhabitable. I got a solicitor to help with this issue, who quoted me fees of £400 which I did not get in writing. The barrister filed papers and the council said it would be taken to high court. The solicitor then quoted me £4000 - £5000 in fees. I advised that solicitor that I could not pay that amount so went to the council legal team and negotiated undertaking. The solicitor had to fax over documentation for undertaking. They had a dispute over the invoice I received from the solicitor of £1800. I had already paid £695 on account. The solicitor then took me to court and requested an order of sale of my property to recover the fees. My defence statement that I wrote was lost. The court has granted the order for sale of my property to the solicitor.

If you are after debt advice, please speak to an expert on here or the CAB, if it's legal advice, maybe the CAB could help.
