Posted - 16 September 2008 : 11:33:08 As of 10.05am this morning, I am officially Bankrupt. I was there early at 9.45am and waited for 10mins or so before I saw the judge. I went in and he said he was sorry to read of my situation, and asked why my overtime at work had dried up, although I think he was just inquiring unofficially if you like because I work in the rail industry and we have spotters everywhere! He never asked me if I understood what bankruptcy meant or if I had taken advice. He just said to the clerk who showed me in that he was making the order for 10.05am and that was it, thanks and out the office. I then went back to the waiting room and waited for the clerk to do my paperwork.
He called me to a room where I spoke to a lady from the OR's office who went over some small details of my name etc and she said I'll have my interview with a lady examiner in around two weeks. She also said I had done the right thing in taking money out of my account and also advised me to send a copy of my bankruptcy order to all my creditors and forward any correspondence from them.
All in all it was over in about 45 mins.
I feel ok but don't think it has sunk in yet really, although I'm looking at this as a new chapter now, a new beginning.
I just want to say thank you to everyone who has helped me on this forum, particularly John, Jo and Julian who have answered all my queries no matter how ridiculous they were. And all the others who replied to my posts. I can't tell you how much I have appreciated the support in what has been a difficult time for me and my wife.
I don't drink much,so I'm off to have a cup of tea and celebrate (for want of a better word!)
p.s just tried to open a co-op cashminder account and it got deferred so they can make a decision. |
