As long as you can evidence anything with regards to your expendture if asked by the OR then they may be leanient towards you.
As Maizie has said if you dont ask you dont get.
Best of luck

Take Care

Thanks Maizie i will have to claim single person. Hope they will allow for my dog - the insurance is the cheapest i can get for him due to his illnesses.
maizie Posted - 20 October 2008 : 16:22:29
I was only allowed £185 housekeeping for a single person, I did put down £370 for two people and the OR halved it! Seems people are getting alot more!

Your pet costs seem high, I was only allowed £20 for pet costs, thats food etc.

But then if you don't ask you don't get!

As long as you can prove your costs you will be fine.

Thanks Skippy - that makes sense now :-)

That is a good price Hitman - a 1 bed maisonette in my road is £750 a month!

Confused, a domestic break is another way of putting a holiday. I must admit I put holiday on the forms!

I put £10 a month for breakdown cover, but it really depends what you are spending on it.

An IPA is an Income Payment Agreement. If you have more than £100 surplus income a month (after all your outgoings) you will be expected to pay a percentage of that into an IPA - 50%-70%, depending how much is available. There is a table in my blog showing how much you could expect to pay.

Tomorrow is a mystery, yesterday is history, today is the present, a gift to make the most of.

Thanks very much guy’s – I have taken your comments and amended my figures.

Few questions – what does domestic break mean in the allowances? How much would you include for break down cover? And very silly question but can come explain exactly what an IPA is?

That should be ok then for the rent. The housekeeping's a tough one really. Maybe try £260 or so? Maybe even a little bit more?? How does that sound?

Yeah, its a good price, its a 3 bed terraced, you could probably pick up a 2 bed flat for that much...

He'll be turning 4 in March.

Hi hitman,

I'd say as long as you don't plan to rent a five bed detached for the two of you and it's about average for the type of property for your area, there should be no problem.

Housekeeping does include food. How old's your son?

If that's what your rent is I don't see that the OR will have a problem with it. Providing the house isn't way bigger than you need, and the rent isn't a great deal higher than others in your area you'll be ok.

Hi C.

Is there a limit on what you can put in for rent? There's myself and my son who will be moving to rented accommodation but its £500. Will the OR see this as excessive? Also, does housekeeping include shopping? If so what could i put down for the both of us?

Hi confused,

This is fresh in my mind as we've recently 'negotiated' (heavily!!) with our examiner to get our IPA's sorted. I've done loads of research into what they seem to be allowing/disallowing at the moment and will tell you how I see it. Here goes! :-)

Rent inc telephone and bills 360 (just put rent)
Mobile 50 (won't be allowed, but try 'telephone' as £50
Housekeeping 184 (try £220?)
Petrol 120
Servicing 20 (we were allowed £40 for 'spares and servicing')
Car insurance 83
Car tax 13.5
Clothing 28 (this is low. Try £60 or even more if you need suits for work)
Glasses 10
Dental treatment NHS 10
Hobbies 16 (won't be allowed)

Dry cleaning 10
Papers 5 (won't be allowed)
Church/Charity 2 (won't be allowed)
Hairdressing 10
Dog insurance 42 (the most I've seen allowed for pets is £20)
Dog Care 10 (unlikely to be allowed on top of the £20 pet ins)
Dog food 35 (will be included in housekeeping, I'd imagine)

Add:

Prescriptions 10
Domestic break 15
Any union fees?
Breakdown cover?

Hope that's helped somewhat! :-)

Take care,

C. x

Hi Confused,

Travel - oh ok so it comes off of your salary anyway - thought you would have travel in there somewhere...

People's have been altered before, usually the OR putting up things like household costs becasue of the recent credit issues..., it would seem though that even if you did add anything else in you would still have disposible income and therefore you would get an IPA for the next three years, if your Disposible income is under £100 you will not get one usually.

Im just trying to think if there is anything else you could include!!!
