Posted - 19 March 2009 : 19:42:27 Hi all. Hope this thread is ok here, it's not really a question....more of a report....
I got to court at 9.30, it didn't open 'til 10am but I wanted to be first there. I was. They took my forms to check them (all 3 copies)then asked me to swear on the bible and sign the forms...and pay the fee.
She then said that she had to check if I was at the right court, because my town is split between 2 councils. It turned out I was at the wrong one!!! I was so annoyed because on the phone they said it was this one. BUT...because I had only moved there in January, I was ok, because my previous address was in the right area!
Anyway...make sure you double check this if you are in any doubt at all.
So I then had to wait while the clerk prepared the paperwork, only for 15 mins, then I was led into another room while the judge looked at my application. Sometimes he/she asks to see you, but I was lucky! lol. This took 10 mins.
So I was taken back while the clerk did my BR letter. Again, another 10 mins.
At 11.08am I became BR! Just over an hour! Brilliant!
I feel relieved but also a little nervous about the OR call. I was told I would get a call from them either today or tomorrow. I haven't heard from them yet.
Just thought I would let you know how it went, because I know that the process differs from court to court. I was at Wolverhampton.
Here's to a debt free life! Cheers! |

Posted - 21 March 2009 : 21:06:50 Little update...
I got a call from the OR's office on Friday morning. They asked me a few questions about where I work, what I do etc, and told me that the OR will call me on the 9th April. She was really friendly and asked me if it was convenient to talk, before she started.
I'm feeling nervous at the moment, not sure why...I suppose it's the thought of people finding out...and mainly the fact that things are changing so much. |

Posted - 19 March 2009 : 19:59:26 I also meant to say...
I had to pay the full fee. I was hoping that I'd be entitled to the discount because of my working tax and child tax credits. Unfortunately, my income (including child benefit) was too high, so it cost me the full £495. It's a good job I took that much with me, just in case! |

At least Wolverhampton court has a reasonable coffee area to wait in.
