As Deedee says it's definitely worth having a look on Freecycle.

Posted - 19 May 2009 : 12:24:27 Also join your local Freecycle groups and see if anyone is advertising any white goods. www.freecycle.org put your settings to recieve daily digest or you will be inundated with emails. I am on local groups and have recently replaced my fridge/freezer from Freecycle.
Look in your local paper and on Ebay for cheap white goods to.

Posted - 18 May 2009 : 08:07:28 This would be fine. The OR's realise that you need necessary appliances in order to survive. I have heard of other people using credit cards/catalogues to purchase these things just before declaring BR and it has been fine wit the OR.
